PE - Sport in school
Our school is firmly committed to sport and subscribe to our local sports partnership - LSLSSP to ensure that all pupils will have the opportunity to take part in developmental events, non-competitive skills days, specialist coaching from outside providers and access to excellence events to participate in competitive sport alongside primary schools in the South Leicestershire area. Our school delivers a varied programme for all our children throughout the year through staff-led PE lessons for 2 hours each week, as well as offering a variety of before and after school clubs.
Additionally, children will have a 10 week block of swimming lessons in Year 3 and Year 4, ensuring that they are all water competent and confident. Children who need extra coaching to achieve the National Curriculum goals of being able to swim 25 metres, be water safe and use a variety of strokes will also be provided with this opportunity.
Billesdon school is proud to achieve the School Games Mark at Gold level again for 2024-2025.
The Government provides additional funding to schools for physical education (PE) and sport. There are clear guidelines about how this money is to be used in schools. The Government expects schools “to achieve self-sustaining improvement in the quality of PE and sport in primary schools. It is important to emphasise that the focus of spending must lead to long lasting impact against the vision (below) that will live on well beyond the Primary PE and Sport Premium funding.”
